GRP Garage Roof & Leak Repairs in Crawley

A garage roof and the utility roof linked to it had been leaking for years. The kind that gets patched, holds for a winter, then comes back somewhere else. Once water is tracking around corners, upstands and an outlet, patching stops being a repair.

We specified GRP. Fibreglass cures as a single seamless laminate, so there are no joints, laps or seams anywhere on the roof, including around the awkward details where this one had been failing. On a roof with this many corners and upstands, that is the whole argument for it.

After a safe strip, we replaced the damaged timber, laid an OSB3 deck and formed the falls with firrings so water actually reaches the new outlet. The GRP went on in catalysed resin layers, finished with a slate-grey topcoat and pre-formed drip and raised edge trims.

The client asked us to look at insulation while we were on site, so we built the utility roof warm: vapour control layer, PIR boards, everything sealed at the penetrations. We fitted a compact flat roof light at the same time to bring daylight in and cut the need for the lights being on. Adjacent works ran to gutter realignment, new outlets, and renewal of the uPVC fascias and soffits to tidy the eaves and improve airflow.

A small felted porch on the same property was re-covered in a three-layer torch-on felt system, the sensible spec at that size and consistent with the detailing everywhere else. We also replaced cracked tiles and re-bedded a short ridge section on the main tiled elevation to stop ingress at the junction.

Before we left we verified laminate thickness on the GRP, bond-tested the felt laps, and water-tested the roof to confirm the falls ran to the outlet and the outlet cleared. The client got a written guarantee and a maintenance plan that fits on a postcard: keep leaves out of the outlets, take a look after high winds, and don’t drag anything heavy across the surface.
